Hydroxyethyl Cellulose (HEC)

Hydroxyethyl Cellulose (HEC) is a water-soluble, non-ionic polymer derived from cellulose, a natural polymer obtained from wood or cotton. With the chemical formula C6H12O6 (C6H7O2(OH)3CH2CH2OH), HEC is produced by etherifying cellulose with ethylene oxide, which introduces hydroxyethyl groups into the polymer chain. This modification imparts water solubility and improved performance in a variety of applications. It is commonly used as a thickening, binding, and stabilizing agent in various industries, including paints, coatings, personal care, pharmaceuticals, and construction.
