Styrene (STY) is an aromatic hydrocarbon with the chemical formula C₆H₅CH=CH₂. It is a colorless, oily liquid that has a sweet, floral odor. Styrene is primarily used as a precursor in the production of polymers and copolymers and is a key building block for the synthesis of a wide range of materials, including plastics, resins, and synthetic rubbers. Styrene is also used in the production of styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) and expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam products.
