Antioxidants (AOs) are chemical compounds widely used to protect materials, particularly polymers, plastics, rubber, and foods, from the harmful effects of oxidation. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that occurs when materials come into contact with oxygen, leading to the breakdown of molecular structures. This can result in the degradation of physical properties, loss of strength, discoloration, and overall performance reduction. Antioxidants work by either neutralizing free radicals, interrupting oxidation processes, or delaying the onset of oxidation, thereby enhancing the longevity and stability of products.
