Products

Our broad line of vinyl acetate-ethylene copolymer and terpolymer aqueous emulsions (VAEs) and their related redispersible powders (RDPs) offer considerable performance advantages over vinyl acetate homopolymers. The incorporation of ethylene as a comonomer effectively lowers the glass transition temperature of the final polymer without the incorporation of plasticizers which can migrate. The ethylene comonomer reduces water sensitivity (hydrophobicity) and enhances flexibility, toughness, adhesion and durability. They provide environmental advantages, since they exhibit good film-forming properties without coalescing agents, for example in low VOC paint and coatings

In this segment, the core markets for our products are Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants, Elastomers (CASE) and Cementitious Products. Within the Building & Construction segment, Gantrade offers a full line of Vinyl Acetate-Ethylene (VAE) copolymers and terpolymers, both in emulsion form and redispersible powders (RDPs). The incorporation of ethylene comonomer into these products contributes to softness and flexibility without the use of external plasticizers which can migrate from the formulation. The VAE co-and terpolymers also bond to a greater variety of difficult surfaces than do general polyvinyl acetate resins.

The VAE co- and terpolymers can be used as cement and plaster modifiers, as binder resins for inorganic materials like gypsum and hydrated lime, or as the sole binder resin for coatings and adhesives. The VAE’s improve flex strength, crack resistance, adhesion & impact resistance, water repellency, dispersion, workability and water retention to name a few attributes. The Redispersible Powder form is often referred to as “dry latex” since they can be dry mixed and subsequently easily redispersed into water.

Our emulsions are available with a wide spectrum of performance characteristics. The ethylene incorporated into these products contributes to softness and flexibility. They also bond to a greater variety of difficult surfaces than do general polyvinyl acetate emulsions.

Applications for VAE co- and terpolymers include the formulation of tile and wallpaper adhesives, grouts, finishing plasters, troweling compounds, thin set mortars and sealing slurries.
